Synopsis:

Atijuade Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe popularly known as Waje (meaning Words Aren’t Just Enough) is an award-winning Nigerian R&B artiste. She was born on 1 September in Akure, Ondo State. While she was young, her parents moved to Benin in Edo State. A single mother, Waje’s first hit single was released in 2015. That was after she featured Patoranking and Godwin Strings in a music video titled ‘Left for Good’. Being her parents’ first daughter and child, Waje faced tough times growing up due to her parents’ separation. As a young child, Waje began to sing while a student at the Word of Faith Group of Schools as member of the choir. Moving forward, in 2007 at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Waje would sing and perform at school concerts and fellowships. This time, it was only gospel. She has featured several notable Nigerian music icons such as MI, P-Square and Banky W. Having gained much confidence singing alongside P-Sqaure and other popular artistes, she participated in a television reality show tagged Advanced Warning, in which she emerged as first runner-up. In 2013, Waje came out with her debut album. She has won several notable awards and nominations. She was once Glo Ambassador. She is also founder of Safe House, an NGO caring for the need of the underprivileged in the society.

Education:

For her Secondary education, Waje attended Word of Faith Group of Schools before moving to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she studied Social Work.

Controversies:

In 2014, Waje posed nude in one of her music videos and this went viral on social media. To many of her fans, the popular singer was simply irresponsible while to others she looked stunning and natural. After the said video had already generated a lot of heat, the singer came out to say that she had to take the nude scene to be able to give meaning to get expressions since music is all about expressions both verbal and nonverbal. So to her, the act was simply an artistic rendition.
