Sound Sultan’s Biography

 

Synopsis:

A devout Muslim whose real name is Olanrewaju Fasasi, Sound Sultan is a renowned Nigerian Rap artiste. Born in Jos, Plateau State on 27 November 1976 to Mr Fasasi Liadi Alapere and Mrs Fasasi Adeyinka Ajarat as the 4th of six children, Lanre is a very talented lyricist and musician. Though he was interested in music from the outset writing his own lyrics and miming them, his passion was further kindled by his Elder brother, Baba Dee, who was also into music. Having been influenced by his brother, Sound Sultan had already formed a band after his secondary education. This was in 1999. At this time, the young promising artiste already knew that he was cut out for music. So he delved into it professionally and started doing shows here and there with the aim of raising money enough to be able to do a studio recording. This he achieved in 2000, when he was discovered and signed by Kennis Music. This was after he had single-handedly released ‘Jagbajantis’, which was a huge success. Under Kennis Music, Sound Sultan released four albums. Each of them received critical acclaim. Afterwards, the talented musician and rapper decided to team up with his brother and together they came up with the Naija Ninjas records. In 2010, he released Back From the Future under this label. Since then, Sound Sultan has gone ahead to feature in his music a number of award winning and internationally acclaimed music artistes such as Wyclef Jean with whom he maintains a remarkable relationship. Also featured in his songs are 2face Idibia, Wizkid, MI, Banky W, Face, to mention a few. Sound Sultan was made the UN ambassador for Peace for his contributions to youth development and talent discovery. In 2009, Sound Sultan married Chichi Morah, now Farida, an Igbo lady.

Education:

From 1981 to 1987, he completed his primary education at Stepping Stone Nursery and Primary School. After that, he finished from Federal Government College, Ogbomosho in 1993. In 1999, he graduated with a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from Lagos State University.

Controversies:

In 2013, on the Kennis Music Channel, Sound Sultan said he wrote the lyrics of Sean Tizzle’s hit ‘Sho Lee’ when he was still with Naija Ninja record label. Afterwards there were calls online that Nigerian artistes should learn to give proper credit to the source of their songs.
