Biography of CDQ (Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf)
Originally named Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, CDQ is a renowned Nigerian hip-hop, rap artiste under the record label, General Records. Born on May 6, 1985, CDQ hails from Kwara State. His stage name, CDQ was coined from his first name, Sodiq. But it was later to be explained by BankyW to mean CD quality, which loosely translates to high-quality music artiste. CDQ’s journey into the world of entertainment started way back in 2012 when he was in the secondary school. Besides being a thorough, indigenous rapper who works hard at his craft, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf aka CDQ is said to be a cool headed, humble guy. His electrifying performance in a school, attended by notable artistes including BankyW, M.I., Wizkid and others, made him well-known. Couple with this was his winning a rap battle at Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Having been discovered by Mastercraft, the young talent was signed to General Records label. Since then it has been from one hit and collabo to another, featuring Nigerian music stars. His first single ‘Suala’ instantly became a hit, enjoying air-play across radio stations in Nigeria. This was followed by other popular songs such as ‘Indomie’, ’69 Missed Calls’ and others. CDQ is a graduate of the University of Lagos.

As though the controversies trailing the 2016 New Year Headie Award was not enough, CDQ also joined a host of controversial artistes at the event, when he came at Praiz, the popular Nigerian R&B singer for being nominated 6 times with no single award to show for it in the end. A lot of music fans in Nigeria had expected the controversial statement to generate a hit response from Praiz. But to everyone’s surprise, the R&B star went on his twitter page and wrote: ‘Bless my Gee !! We stay shinning.’ Interestingly, many music lovers regarded this as an epic snub on the Kwara-born rap artiste.
