Omawumi’s Biography

 

Synopsis:

Omawumi Megbele popularly known as Omawumi is a famous Nigerian music artiste and songwriter. Born in Delta State, hometown of her parents on 13 April 1982, she trained as a lawyer. She practiced law in a family law firm for some time before finally deciding to venture into music full-time. The name Omawumi as a singer was unknown until May 2007 when she wowed the audience and judges of the popular Television reality show, Idols West Africa, in which she emerged 1st runner-up. She would tread that path to stardom as she has gone on to become one of Nigeria’s celebrated artistes today. Omawumi has performed on stage alongside prominent artistes such as 2face, P-Sqaure, MI and 9ice and featured them and several others in her songs. In addition to her successful music career, she has also featured as an actress in such popular movies as Inale (2010), House of Gold (2013) and Make a Move (2014). She is a brand ambassador for the Nigerian telecom giant Globacom.

Education:

Having completed her secondary education at the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School, she proceeded to Ambros Ali University where she studied law. Omawumi also learned French at Alliance Franchise.

On the 13 of April 2016, Omawumi became a controversial figure when she uploaded some overwhelming photos of herself in which she was almost naked. Her fans who had earlier respected her for zero record for controversies in the music industry were swept by surprise when the said pictures went viral on social media. While many adore her elegant figure, others thought she needed not go so low to be celebrated.
