Nigerian Celebrities Biography: JJC

JJC’s Biography

Born in Kano, Kano State, on 4 April 1997, Abdul Rasheed Bello popularly known by the stage name JJC is a Nigerian rap artiste. JJC, a stage name which means Johny Just Come, is a term commonly used in Nigeria to refer to a newcomer. Though raised in Kano where he was born, he spent only 14 years before relocating to the UK. His love for music sprouted back in Nigeria. He would listen keenly when his father’s stereo blasted out epic songs from Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Afrobeats, Shina Peters’Afro Juju to Michael Jackson’s pop. In England, at the Dick Shepherd School, he became interested in music production and started to engage in songwriting and singing. This led him to form a group called Big Brovas and then won a MOBO award. However, the group soon went separate as a member went solo and others too had to call it quit because there was no album sale. Still in the UK, JJC was not not going to be put down. He decided to form another group and called it JJC and 419 Squad. The name, 419, which was adopted with a view to correcting the bad image of Nigerians abroad, is a Nigerian criminal code associated with advanced fee fraud. With the new group who rap and sing in the blend of English and Yoruba, they have performed at different concerts and festivals. Other members of the group include D’banj and Dr. Sid. The group won an award at the KORA All Africa Music Award. However, just like the previous group, some notable members in the group went solo. Now simply JJC, the Kano-born Nigerian rap star has gone to release many hit songs collaborating with top Nigerian singers like Ice Prince, Olamide, Vector, Skales to mention just a few. He had also performed at several music festivals and shows across the globe. He has been widely nominated and has many awards to his credit. He has also been given credit for helping to discover and develop such great artistes in Nigeria as Don Jazzy, Weird MC, Olu Maintain and Bouqui.

Of course, JJC too is controversial, being a popular artiste. Recently (early 2016), the news or (maybe we should say, the rumour) making the round has it that the UK-based rapper is dating Funke Akindele, a renowned Nollywood actress. In addition, the media was agog with the revelation in which JJC was nailed. In an interview he had with Nigerian Entertainment Today, DBanj accused JJC who was his former producer of cheating him along with Don Jazzy while in the UK. Upon hearing this, JJC became so infuriated that he decided to air his own part of the story. In his own interview with Nigezie, he stated that he could not have paid DBanj as he was only helping him to gain ground in the music scene. However, he agreed to paying Don Jazzy the actual sum of 1000 pounds because he was producing records for the group. The gist became messy when he said that DBanj was truly engaged in fraud while in the UK and that was what prompted his track ‘Mo Bo Lo won won’.
