Ayo Makun, AY’s Biography



Ayodeji Richard Makun popularly known as AY was born on August 19, 1978 in Delta State. A foremost Nigerian comedian cum actor, Ayo Makun hails from Ondo State. The oldest male of family of seven, AY, as he is fondly called by his teeming fans, has been involved in entertainment since 2003. As a Theatre Arts student, he had been part of several campus shows, events and stage performance as an actor, comedian, and model. For his overwhelming influence in the entertainment shows on campus, he has bagged such notable honours as best personality, best show-biz, and most fashionable. Ayo professionally delved into show-biz after serving the pioneer of stand up comedy in Nigeria, Alibaba Akporobome as personal assistant and event manager. Since then he has become so influential in the comedy industry that he now hosts the largest comedy TV show in Africa, AY Live. Besides comedy, he is also a guest columnist in the Nigeria The Sun newspaper. In addition, he is currently the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment, Nigeria. He has featured in the popular movies, Being Mrs Elliot and 30 Days in Atlanta, in which he was both actor and producer. AY also directed the popular television sitcom titled AY’s crib. The multi-award-winning Ayo Makun is married with a daughter named Michelle.


AY studied Theatre Arts at the Delta State University, Abraka.

On December 2008, the award-winning comedian, Ayo Makun, got himself in a mess for tweeting about the 8.5 million Naira gift as an anniversary gift to his wife. Some hours after this, the producer of the much talked-about movie titled 30 Days in Atlanta enraged his fans who felt that he was unnecessarily bragging about a gift to his wife. Later on, the movie artiste cum comedian apologised for his action. One would have thought that it would end there; but it did not. In the middle of this, someone with a twitter handle Golden225 said in a tweet addressing Basketmouth that he should not go about trying to act like AY by bragging about buying an expensive car for wife. Surprisingly, in the said tweet, AY was mentioned. This infuriated the Delta State University graduate who tweeted in response, mentioning both Sky High and Basketmouth: “Basketmouth, you obviously created this twitter account for this mission. When you are done, let me know. I wish you all the best.”
