Chierika Ukoju Made History As Nigeria’s First Olympic Rower

Chierika Ukogu  is a professional rower who qualified to represent Nigerian at Rio 2016. This makes her the first ever Nigerian to row at an Olympic.

The 24-year-old who has been rowing since 2006 is a Stanford graduate and will soon begin medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine.

Chierika has now qualified for the quarter-finals of the women’s Rowing event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Competing in heat 5, she finished third with a time of 8:35:34 behind Austria’s Lobnig Magdalena who came first with a time of 8:26:38 and Czech’s Topinkova Miroslava in second with a time of 8:29:90.

She is  now ranked 15th after the heats.

In a recent interview, Chierika  speaks on how it  has always been her dream to row for Nigeria.
