Three Female Athletes Resort To Raising Funds To Represent Nigeria At Rio Olympics

Three Nigerian Female Athletes who will be participating at the 2016 Rio Olympics have set up gofundme pages to seek donations from the public. This is to enable them cover the expenses of going to Rio.

It is disheartening to read that these talented women have to personally raise funds to represent their country in Rio Olympics. They have worked so hard to be qualified, they shouldn’t have to go begging to be in Rio.

We hope the appropriate body will look into this and make sure they have adequate funds to be able to compete with their conterparts from all over the world, without being finanicially stranded

Chierika Ukogu is selected to represent Nigeria in the Women’s Single Scull event. Her goal is to raise $15,000.

Regina George is an American-born Nigerian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres and her goal is to raise $4,000

Nwanneka “Nikki” Okwelogu is a Nigerian track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus throw events. Her goal is to raise $7,000
