Timaya is a household name in the Nigerian music industry. Originally named Enetimi Alfred Odon, he was born on 29 November 1977 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A songwriter and music artiste, Timaya is the last of 15 children. He hails from Odi in Bayelsa State. His parents had issues to grind regarding his passion for music at an early age. With a father who was a banker and mother who was a successful trader, Timaya was expected to have a good education. But Timaya would have none of their distractions; he would sneak out of school to attend late-night music shows and clubs. Fed up with this, her mother had to make him travel to Lagos with his older sister. It was there he finished his secondary education. Shortly after this, he went back to Portharcourt to study Banking and Finance but did not complete his studies as he dropped out only after a semester. But the young Timaya knew where his passion lied; he knew he was good at something and it was music. So against all odds, he returned to Lagos where he joined Eedris AbdulKareem serving him as backup. He did this for three years until he met k-Solo, a music producer at Mafoluku in Lagos through whose help he was able to release his first hit single titled ‘Dem Mama’. It went viral launching Timaya to stardom. Still under K-Solo reord label he came out with his fist album titled True Story. With K-Solo, Terry G, Phyno as producers, he went ahead to release another well-received album titled Gift and Grace. After that, Timaya has released other four award-winning albums. He has won several awards across Africa and beyond. In 2011, he became a peace ambassador for Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace.

In 2015, Jabless another popular music artiste in Nigeria, accused Timaya’s producer of theft. On a series of tweets which was directed at Timaya via his twitter handle @timayatimaya, Jabless said that the instrumental (beat) used on Timaya’s song ‘Hallelluyah’ was actually stolen from the track 2 of the album titled I am Me. Though he absolved Timaya of the blame, he however warned that his image might be tarnished along the line. Jabless swore to take the matter to court. In addition, the Port Harcourt born artiste was largely critisized by fans for his irresponsible act of shame in Atlanta. One of Timaya’s fans by the name Shella B. accused the music Star of rape. She claimed that Timaya raped her when he came to Atlanta to perform at a show. Some time later, Timaya revealed online that he never raped the girl though he had what he called consensual sex with her. Following this, Timaya’s fans stormed the social media venting their anger on him for being highly irresponsible. They however were full of pity for his wife, Baby Mama, Barbara who just welcomed their second child.
