Wizkid, who was originally named Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun by parents was one the foremost Nigerian music artists. Born in Surulere, July 16 1990, youngest of six children from a polygamous family, Balogun started his musical career in the church at the age of 11. Then he was known as Lil Prinz. This promising young artist was soon to be discovered by an already established and renowned music producer and singer in Nigeria OJB Jezreel. With the help of OJB Jezreel, Wizkid came up with a 7-track album titled Lil Prinz in Lagos in 2001. The album was widely received by friends and even his family who were hitherto not interested in the boy’s career as a musician. Afterwards, at the age of 15, Wizkid decided to up his game and so in 2006 he dropped his Lil Prinz stage name and worked with popular Nigerian artists such as Naeto C and Ikechukwu. During his quest to take his musical career to the next level he came close to a celebrated artiste like Banky W, with whom he enjoyed a strong professional relationship. By the time, he had already switched to the name, Wizkid. Wizkid is now the name on the lips of every Nigerian who is a lover of good music.

As common with most popular artistes, Wizkid also got himself into some controversial situations. One of these was the claim by some Unilag students that they had been duped by Wizkid having failed to show up for a show at the University of Lagos Sports Centre after collecting the sum of 500 thousand naira from them. However, after thorough investigation by the police it was revealed that the students were coned by some fraudsters claiming to be affiliates to E. M. E. Another controversy was the claim that Wizkid impregnated an undergraduate student named Oluwanishola Ogudugu in August 2011. It was also said that he became father at the age of 21. But none of his friends and family members contacted was able to comment on the issue on the ground that DNA results must first be released.
Wizkid later denied it as false. However, in 2013, the supposedly false story was later confirmed to be true when he posted a picture of his 2-year old son and himself on Instagram. Similarly, in October 2014 the Nigerian Pop star was soiled in a scandal reported by a Kenyan newspaper that he had been allegedly arrested in a Kenyan hotel for smoking marijuana. In 2014 also, a notable singer popularly called Saeon accused Wizkid of neglecting the song on which she featured him. In response, Wizkid went on his twitter page denying ever coming across Saeon, let alone featuring in her album. If not for these, Wizkid remains one of the most controversial artistes ever in the history of the Nigerian Music Industry.
