King Sunny Ade’s Biography
Sunday Adeniyi, popularly known as King Sunny Ade, is a Nigerian musician, songwriter and instrumentalist. Also identified as King of Juju, he is listed among one of the most skillful and successful songwriters and singers in Nigeria. Ade was born on the 22nd of September 1946. At present, he is 69 years old. He was born in Oshogbo, Osun state. He is a native of Ondo State, Nigeria. He was born into a royal family. Sunny started his music career in Lagos. He left Grammar school in Ondo State at the pretense of going to further his education at the University of Lagos. Starting off as a professional musician, he worked with Moses Olaiya’s Federal Rhythm Dandies, a highlife band. Not too long, he left and founded his band, which he named ‘The Green Spots” in 1967. The band’s name was changed several times for various reasons. At a time, it was known as African Beats, later called Golden Mecury. Ade on stage is a talented dancer, wielding great skills while handling the guitar, stirring audiences tumultuously. Minister of enjoyment, as he is often described, Sunny has collaborated with artistes like Manu Dibango, Steve Wonder. He has also featured some young Nigerian artistes like Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Bola Abimbola. His aim with music is to help willing singers at the brink get to the top. Secondly, he had vowed to win the Grammy Awards before quitting music.

King Sunny Ade has seven official wives. It has been rumoured that he has more wives regarded as unofficial. To him, living a polygamous lifestyle is not a big deal. He has been criticized for this several times.
