Idowu Philips’ Biography
Esther Idowu Philips, popularly known as Mama Rainbow, is one of the greatest actresses of her time. She was born on October 16, 1942. She is presently aged 73 as at the time of this post. Mama Rainbow started her adventure as an actress at the age of 45. Although she was a nurse, her passion to pursue acting was ever burning. She rarely had time for the profession. So she had to call it quit, and instead she opted for acting. She earned her stage name ‘Mama Rainbow’ from the name of her late husband’s theatre group ‘Osumare’ (Meaning Rainbow). After her husband’s death in 1990, she decided to plunge fully into acting. She has appeared in several movies since then. Today, Mama Rainbow is referred to as one of the pillars of the Yoruba movie industry.
She had her primary and secondary education in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. Thereafter, she got admission into a nursing school.
Idowu Philips is known for her professional character as a mother. In most movies, her motherly role has attracted the attention of fans. Her competence for this role is so obvious that she is probably the best around for it.

In 2003, Iya Rainbow had an accident. She was said to have mistakenly killed a commuter with her car in Oshodi, Lagos. She once also reported that her last sex was prior to her husband’s death. To many, the statement seemed incredible because she lost her husband a long time ago.
