Dr Sid’s Biography

Synopsis: Dr Sid, a popular Nigerian Afropop and Afro hip hop artiste, was born Sidney Onoriode Esiri, on 1 May 1980 in Ikeja, Lagos State to parents who are both renowned actor and fashion designer. They hail from Delta State. The second of four children, Sidney had always wanted to be an entertainer. But his parent wanted a brighter future for him: they wanted him to be more than just an entertainer. So after his secondary education, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan to study Dental Surgery. However, the talented Dr SID would not give up on his dream that easily. So as an undergraduate, he was actively involved in creative activities like acting, performing and singing. His focus on his studies did not suffer though. How he was able to manage that is best left to him. Before he graduated from the University, he was well-known and had already garnered a handful of followers. Then he joined Trybe Records, not as a singer, but as a backup dancer in 1999. He began his music career proper in 2013 when he released his debut single titled ‘Don’t Stop’. After qualifying as a dentist, he moved to the UK where he teamed up with JJC and 419 Squad. Returning to Nigeria, he worked at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital for sometimes. All this time, he was still dedicated to his music. Then he joined Don Jazzy and D’Banj’s MoHits records having quitted his dentist profession. Thus, his career as a fulltime music artist just began. But when MoHits fell apart, he went with one of the partners of the group, Don Jazzy, who formed another record label called Mavin Records. Under this new label, Dr SID released his debut studio compilation album titled Solar Plexus. Since then he has released one hit songs upon another.
