A few weeks ago, one of Nigeria’s finest and most celebrated musicians, David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido) signed a multi-million dollar international record deal with the world extolled musical record, Sony Music, in New York.
This was made known by the American-based company in a statement published on its website. The deal will allow Davido to make and produce all his songs under the company’s label. The deal will also herald a new era for Sony Music Entertainment Africa on the continent.
Davido is the first African musician to partner with Sony Music Corporation. He released his first single “Dami Duro” in 2011 and never looked back ever since. This new Sony deal will enable him to create, distribute and market his music at world class level.
The deal was facilitated by Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajoboye, who happened to be the brain behind the musician’s album: “The B.A.D.D.E.S.T.”
However, the question on everyone’s lips is “will the deal make the omo baba olowo crooner richer than his father soon?” I believe only time will give answer to this. Judging from his songs, I believe his goal is to be richer than his dad. If you’ve listened to his collaboration with Reminisce, then you’ll understand what I mean. All the the best to this young man making a name for himself on the big stage.
